Adam Sandler starred on the latest $23.4 million debut film – Funny People. It seemed that the movie audiences loved Adam Sandler’s more serious side. “Funny People” reigns on the top spot at the weekend, sweeping off other great films like “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” with $17.7 million and “G-Force,” with $17.1 million..
It was a different weekend for Hollywood if we compare it to last summer. Just imagine the difference: last year, the “The Dark Knight” topped with a $42.7 million weekend, followed by “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” which had $40.5 million. Nonetheless, Funny people remains a hit worldwide, so we should expect for more development with the figures.
Judd Apatow said that he was trying to make a very serious movie that is twice as funny as his other movies. Under his new direction, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann in Funny People, he surely did a great job.
The movie is about a famous comedian who had a near-death experience or NDE. Adam Sandler, Jason Schwartzman, Eric Bana, RZA and newcomer Aubrey Plaza are the main cast of the film.
Adam played the role of George Simmons, who is a very successful yet self-involved stand-up comedian. He later on realized that he has an incurable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. The film may have a theme about death but the interesting thing about it is it still talks about life.
As serious as it may seem, the movie plot will really give you a different perception Adam Sandler on the big screen. Though “funny people needs a shove of box-office “testosterone” as other critics say, because of the heightening ticket sales of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Nevertheless, the remarkable performance of Sandler will always make him a winner.
