The motion-capture technology seen in films “The Polar Express” (2004) and Beowulf (2007) will rise again with a new film entitled the “Airman”. Based on Eoin Colfer’s (author of bestseller Artemis Fowl) best-selling 2008 novel, Disney in conjunction with Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers company is set to produce the film with a $150 million budget.
Scribe Ann Peacock who wrote the 2005 adaptation ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ was called in to pen the script. Recently she’s sold her story of ‘Odysseus’ to Warner Bros. and her screenplay for ‘The First Grader’ is currently in pre-production for the BBC. According to Variety, Gil Kenan who has done a previous work with Zemeckis on “Monster House” is called in to take over directing.
Airman is a fantasy story of a boy named Connor who lives in the Saltee Islands off the coast of Ireland. His father is bodyguard to the king, however when the king is murdered, Connor is blamed for the crime. He is then thrown into prison where he passes the solitary months. Locked away, he begins designing a one-man, gas-propelled flying machine that can be used to save him and his family after he discovers that they are in danger.
