Director Gavin Hood is in talks to direct the remake for Gay and Laney Salisbury’s book “The Cruelest Miles: The Heroic Story of Dogs and Men in a Race Against an Epidemic”. The story features a crew of 200 Alaskan dogs helping 20 bitter cold men bring a highly-needed diphtheria cure to Nome, Alaska in 1925. The most famous among those dogs was half-wolf Balto.
The great influence Balto had on people later enshrined it on a statue in Central Park. Then in 1995, Balto earned the spotlight again when it was featured in an animated film under the voice of Kevin Bacon.
Hopefully, Hood would tackle the tale on a slightly new note compared to Salisbury’s book. The film is looking forward to begin filming this summer.
The next project line up for the Oscar-winning directors is the Fox’s “Breakout Kings”.
