Oscar-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins will be ruling over the mythical Asgard of Norse mythology as he agreed to take on the role of ruler Odin in the upcoming feature “Thor”. The one-eyed king of Asgard is father to lead role Thor and father figure to Thor’s archenemy and prankster God, Loki. Adapted from a comic book serial, the story revolves on Thor who receives as punishment from his father Odin, a trip to earth to live among the human beings. In earth, Thor learns the value of true heroism as he comes face-to-face with Loki and the darkest forces of Asgard with their desire to invade the Earth.
The Marvel Studios picture will be under the direction of Kenneth Branagh starring Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth in the title role. While playing the role of Loki would be British actor Tom Hiddleston who had been in previous projects with Branagh. Actress Natalie Portman will be starring as Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest.
Under the helm of Paramount, “Thor” will begin filming shortly after the New Year with a set release date on May 20, 2011. Its release will set the stage for Marvel’s upcoming films “The First Avenger: Captain America” on summer of 2010 and “Avengers” on 2012.
Being the Norse God King, Sir Anthony Hopkins will possess immense powers including superhuman strength, transporting the entire human race into an alternate dimension, compressing an entire planet into the being Mangog, and taking a soul away from the arch-demon Mephisto. He also possesses an extended life span brought about by the golden apples of Idunn. Sir Anthony Hopkins is expected to bring great life to the most powerful creature in Norse Mythology.
