‘Area 51′ Picked up by Paramount

Paramount keeps the success under their realm as they take over the distribution rights for the upcoming film following the hit wonder thriller “Paranormal Activity”. Writer-director Oren Peli, the person behind the surprise success, is busy helming his latest film “Area 51”. Paramount, the same studio holding “Paranormal Activity” has locked the rights on Peli’s new film.

It’s no surprise Paramount has decided to take the jump after earning huge from Peli’s previous film grossing a total of over $100 million coming from a lowly $11,000 budget. The huge conversion of income was enough for Paramount to decide to invest once more on the prowess of Peli.

Area 51” follows the same concept of its predecessor with the “found footage” narrative structure. For this film, a group of teenagers stumble upon a notorious military base in the Nevada desert. Locals say the place is invaded by alien life forms and technology. Recently the principal photography for the film is done. The studio is hoping to release the film by 2010.

Though “Area 51” stands on good ground, equaling the success of predecessor “Paranormal Activity” would be difficult considering the concept is no longer new to the audience. However it’s too early to make assumptions. Let’s just see what the audience has to say once “Area 51” arrives in box-office.
