Carrie Underwood = Actress?

American Idol” country music star Carrie Underwood is all set to make her debut appearance in the big-screen as she has recently signed up to appear in the upcoming indie drama “Soul Surfer”. The film based on the autobiography of teenage surfing champion Bethany Hamilton would follow the journey of a young thirteen-year-old losing her arm from a 15-foot tiger shark attack at Hawaii in 2003. Despite the major trauma and setback, the surfing diva returns to the waves and professional competitions again just weeks after the devastating incident.

Taking on the inspirational lead role of the brave girl is “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” star Anna Sophia Robb. Cast together with her as Hamilton’s parents are stars Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt. Underwood meanwhile would portray a church youth leader.

Though this is a relatively small role in the movie, the significant move could possibly pave the way for Underwood’s sprouting movie career. Lately, the young singer had been busy appearing in televisions and shows everywhere including co-hosting the recent CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. Then just this week, an announcement came of her upcoming cameo on “How I Met Your Mother” as a flight attendant.

Despite her thriving on-screen success, Underwood still remains true to her singing career. On Sunday night, she’d be having a brief music gig at the Super Bowl as she is tasked to sing the National Anthem before the big game begins.

Filming for “Soul Surfer” is scheduled to begin this week.
