Entertainment weekly reports that Dustin Hoffman, also known as Bernie Focker, Ben Stiller’s eccentric father in the 2004 movie, ‘Meet the Fockers’ may not return to his role in the new flick, ‘Little Fockers’.
There have been many issues between Hoffman and the studio. Some of which include the size of his part, apparently his appearance would be very brief, along with schedule conflicts and other difficulties.
The studio and Hoffman have been keeping quiet about the situation at hand. We are left to wonder how the studio plans on making Hoffman’s exit from the film. Could he be killed off? Will they get another actor and act like the switch never happened?
Roz Focker, played by Barbara Streisand, who’s the mother of Stiller’s character is said to have divorced Bernie Focker in the film and is set to introduce Gaylord (Stiller) to his new stepfather.
Losing Dustin Hoffman’s star power might cause the film to take a little hit in the numbers, especially since his quirky relationship with Streisand’s character was such a hit, however, with Stiller, Streisand, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Jessica Alba and Owen Wilson all set to star, we don’t think the hit will be that big.
Scheduled to be released in July 2010, ‘Fockers’ is directed by ‘American Pie’ director, Paul Weitz. The latest in the ‘Focker’ series will have Gaylord and Pam Focker as parents of 5 year old twins.
