Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as ‘Shazam!’ and ‘Captain America’?

Back in 2007, much talk has been aired on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s appearance in the DC comics adaptation following the adventures of Captain Marvel “Shazam”. Johnson is geared up to add another comic book franchise role to his belt. During the premiere of his latest film “Planet 51” in Westwood California Johnson stated his opinions on taking in roles not only for “Shazam” but for “The First Avenger: Captain America” as well.

I would love to, of course,” says the former pro-wrestler. “Especially ‘Shazam,’ Black Adam — we have talked about that for such a long time. I am not quite too sure what is happening with that right now. I am still always excited about that. As far as for ‘Captain America,’ sure, absolutely. If it’s entertaining for the audiences, yeah.”

Speculations had been high that Johnson would be taking the role in “Shazam” since editor-in-chief for Marvel, Joe Quesada announced the latest updates on the film in the recent Big Apple Comic Convention. He said, “I’ve seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it’s going to rock everyone’s socks off. It’s very unexpected, the kind of movie it is.

In a recent interview with Cinefools, writer for “Shazam” Bill Burch revealed that “Shazam” director Peter Segal, who had previously worked with Johnson in last year’s “Get Smart”, finds the role of Captain Marvel’s black-suited anti-hero Black Adam suited for Johnson even Captain Marvel himself.

Surprising Johnson is no familiar to comic books stating, “I was never big into comic books when I was a kid, but I do like comic book movies. I like the way they have gone. The adaptations are generally pretty cool.

At present Johnson lends his voice to Captain Charles T. Baker in the animated movie “Planet 51”.
