Jeremy Renner May Be ‘Hawkeye’

Captain American may not be right for “The Hurt Locker” star Jeremy Renner, but he’s more suited to fill in the shoes of another Marvel character Hawkeye. The star sits down with Empire Magazine to discuss his possible appearance in the movie “The Avengers”. However he corrects that Captain America was not the role of focus saying, “I don’t know if I’d be right for Captain America. I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America”. Instead the production crew had a different character in mind stating, “But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we’ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.

Renner also touches on his speculations that Hawkeye would most likely appear first in the other Marvel comic adaptation “Thor” before making an introduction in “The Avengers”.  “If I was a betting man, I would bet that Hawkeye would probably show up in ‘Thor’, and then be in ‘The Avengers’”, he stated. But he clarifies that his thoughts might simply be opinions saying, “But do I know for sure? I can’t say. But I’d love for that to happen. It’d be fun.

The star clarifies though that no official offer has been made yet and he doubts one would come soon. He is thankful though for the recognition admitting, “I’m just happy to get considered for big franchise roles like that. I’m not [doing the] casting. If they see me that way, right on. If they don’t, I’m ok with it.

Marvel Comics’ superhero team of Iron Man, captain America, Thor, and more would make their first appearance together in the “The Avengers” as they team up to battle the biggest enemy they’d ever face. Penned by scribe Zak Penn, the tentative release date on the U.S. is on May 4, 2012.
