Justin Timberlake as ‘BooBoo’ in ‘Yogi Bear’

The much-loved Hanna-Barbera cartoon “Yogi Bear” emerges anew with its 3-D live-action/CGI animated version under Warner Bros. Garnering progress in production, the film recently announced the casting of Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake, and Anna Faris.

Currently in negotiations are Aykroyd to voice Yogi with the possibility of Timberlake coming in as the voice of Yogi’s bow-tie wearing sidekick, Boo-Boo. Faris would star as a nature documentary reporter following the antics of a bear and his sidekick in fictional Jellystone Park.

Inspired by Art Carney’s Ed Norton character on “The Honeymooners”, Yogi Bear first appeared in Hanna-Barbera cartoons in 1958. Later he transitioned to the big screen with 1964’s animated “Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear”.

Journey to the Center of the Earth” director Eric Brevig has been tapped to helm the project with producers Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt. Brad Copeland created the screenplay from the original draft of scribes Joshua Sternin and Jeff Ventimilia. Filming is set to begin next month in New Zealand aimed for a release next year.

Ex-’N Sync singer Timberlake is no foreigner to voice over as he recently lent his voice in “Shrek the Third” and starred in “The Open Road” opposite Jeff Bridges. For Faris since her standout performance in “The House Bunny”, her career has blossomed earning voicing roles in “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and the upcoming “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”. Currently Aykroyd on the other hand, is working on a third “Ghostbusters” film.
