‘Moneyball’ to be Directed by Bennett Miller

After much production delay, “Moneyball” may have found its spark of hope as “Capote” director Bennett Miller is currently in talks to helm the baseball drama. The film is based from Michael Lewis’ best-selling 2003 book about Beane and the Athletics. Brad Pitt is set to portray general manager for the Oakland Athletics Billy Beane. He had been famously ridiculed and mocked in the baseball industry for his unconventional ways of using statistical formula to assemble a short-budgeted team.

In the beginning, Columbia tasked Steven Soderbergh to direct the film. Before the scheduled July filming even began, the cord was pulled from Soderbergh. The studio then pulled in Aaron Sorkin to rework on the script’s draft originally written by Steve Zaillian. Taking over production are Michael De Luca, Scott Rudin, and Rachael Horovitz. The only missing link is the directorial seat which may be possibly filled up by Miller.
