‘Peter Proud’ Adaptation by the ‘Seven’ Team

The team responsible for “Se7en” is reuniting once more to resurrect the adaptation of Max Ehrlich’s novel “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” for Columbia Pictures.

David Fincher is set to direct the new adaptation of the novel from Andre Kevin Walker’s screenplay while Michael De Luca takes over production.  Back in 1995, Fincher and Walker first joined forces to create the 1995 thriller “Se7en” with Fincher as director and Walker as writer. De Luca was then president of production for New Line, the label that released “Se7en”.  Alison Rosenzweig who’s responsible for bringing the project to de Luca back then will also produce for the remake.

In 1975, “Peter Proud” was first released as a novel then later as a film with Ehrlich himself writing the adaptation of his book. Director J. Lee Thompson produced the film back then starring Michael Sarrazin and Margot Kidder.

Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia pictures who previously worked with Fincher on “Panic Room” and “Rachel O’Connor” is overseeing the project.

Peter Proud” tells the tale of a college professors experiencing recurring dreams and nightmares that he believed are images of a past life. Puzzled and curious, he decided to seek out the source of his visions. Tagging along his girlfriend, he stumbles upon a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life. Inserted also is an incest subplot.

According to the team, they will be heading back to the novel as source material to appropriately produce a contemporary version of the story.

At present, Fincher is about to begin filming for another Columbia film, “The Social Network” with De Luca as producer.
