The leading star for “Bruno” and “Borat” has lined up his next starring role with Universal’s “Accidentes” penned by co-writer for “Borat” and “Bruno” Peter Baynham. Based on the ever-present billboards and DASH ads encountered during traffic countless times, Cohen will portray a lawyer of Latin descent transforming from a contingency attorney to a hero of the working class. He does so by helping an immigrant win a judgment against his wealthy employer after a landscaping mishap. Eventually he ends up becoming a sought-after enemy of the L.A.’s power elite.
Baynham together with Baron Cohen, Ant Hines, and Dan Mazer were the great minds behind “Borat” and “Bruno”. Teaming up once more, the quartet had produced a script for a new movie under Columbia Pictures to star Baron Cohen. Details of the script and the movie title are still hidden from public but apparently it’s different from his typical comedy. Coming off as completely scripted, it will provide a new take on his usual prank comedy where the British comic punks real people who aren’t in on the joke.
According to Variety, after finishing features out of all three of his ambush characters from “Da Ali G Show” he’s done with that type of comedy for good.
The Columbia Pictures film and “Accidentes” are both projects of Baron Cohen’s newly launched production company Four by Two. Earlier, the Fox quasi-indie division run by Debbie Liebling, Fox Atomic has overseen the development of the film. However Fox Atomic dropped off this year leaving “Accidentes” mid-air. Universal, the company behind the release of “Bruno” took over the production.
