The 1986 sci-fi comedy classic “Short Circuit” is sailing its way to the 21st century with a remake under Dimension Films. Revolving on the story of a military-created robot, Johnny 5, who after being struck by lightning develops consciousness, earns emotions, and gains a personality. He caps it off with a famous line, “Johnny 5 is alive!” Eventually he befriends a lonely boy and his broken family. In the original Ally Sheedy stars as the woman who discovers Johhny 5 alongside Steve Guttenberg who plays the role of the compassionate creator in search of his invention.
Scribe Dan Milano penned the script as a straight-forward remake with the main focus of transporting the iconic character to the liking of the audience in the 21st century. Replacing original creators S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, Milano reportedly produced a faithful update from the original. After much wait, the film’s directing is now officially in the hands of “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” director Steve Carr. Production would be taken over by David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe of David Foster Productions along with John Hyde of Rehab Entertainment. No word has been out yet on the celebrities to star in the remake. It’s a must-see film to look forward to.
