In today’s era of remakes, reboots, and sequels of films aired in the big screen many years before most of us are born, it’s no longer a surprise that Disney is set to produce a new sequel to “Three Men and a Baby”. The original 1987 film which was inspired by the French hit ‘3 hommes et un couffin’ revolves on the story of three New York bachelors who take into their custody an abandoned baby on their doorstep. The first sequel produced back in 1990 that was entitled “Three Men and a Little Lady” had the three dads deal with the possibility of losing their five-year-old daughter as she might move in with her mother in England. After almost 20 years, the second sequel entitled “Three Men and a Bride” will reunite the three heterosexual life partners Steve Guttenberg, Ted Danson, and Tom Selleck as they reprise their roles for the film.
Guttenberg was the first to break the news as he tells, “Disney’s developing ‘Three Men and a Bride.’ That’s going to be a smash. A smash hit. They’re bringing everybody back for that. Nobody knows about it. I’m the first to talk about it.”
A news article suggests that the inspiration for the sequel came from “Mamma Mia”. Though similar in some aspects, it will offer an entirely new perspective as the sequel won’t be a musical and the story would not revolve on figuring out who the real father is. In the previous movies, Tom Danson was already identified as the real father.
Guttenberg adds, “The script is pretty much written and we are really keen to get that made. We’re very hopeful.”
Based from the title alone, “Three Men and a Bride” is assumed to be dealing with the event of the three dads giving away their betrothed daughter. Of course, there would be twists along the way that would remain unknown for the time being but worth looking forward to.
