Independent horror film “Walking Distance” attempts to benefit from the smashing success of Paramount’s “Paranormal Activity” by changing their name to “Experimental Activity”. The idea of cashing in on the latter’s success happened when the film’s leading star Katie Featherston has made a box-office hit by also starring beforehand in the thriller “Paranormal Activity”. Aside from Featherston horror-thriller veterans Adrienne King, from the original “Friday the 13th” and Glenn Morshower, secret service agent on “24” are featured in the independent film as well.
The film’s original title comes from these lines: “Everyone wants a homecoming, but in this case you really can’t ever go home again. No matter how hard you try, you can’t escape your past, and you can’t outrun yourself. Both are always within Walking Distance.”
International rights to “Experimental Activity” are owned by Showcase Entertainment, distributor of low-budget comedies and horror films. They are the ones responsible for revamping the name of the horror feature. President Jackson tells the Reporter, “Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller.”
The theme for the film, seen first on their “black” trailer, highly suggests subliminal messages to the government’s medical experiments and alien abduction. The film tells the tale of a seemingly tranquil and self-sufficient neighborhood yet possesses hidden dark past and even sinister secrets. Most intriguingly the people are subject to a government medical experiment.
Interestingly, an episode in “Twilight Zone” back in 1959 was also coined “Walking Distance”. The story intriguingly tells of a middle aged man who returns to his home town and encounters himself as a child.
