The prequel for the film “300” has finally earned a rightful title and time-period for its plot. Frank Miller personally sheds light on the plot for the film entitled “Xerxes” saying, “It’s the battle of Marathon through my lens. I’ve finished the plot and I’m getting started on the artwork.”
In 490 BC, 26 miles away from Athens, a Greek army faced against a Persian forced led by Emperor Darius I in the battle of Marathon. Persians greatly outnumbered the 10,000 Greeks by more than twice. Playing safe, the Greeks sent a runner 150 miles to Sparta to ask for help from the mighty shirtless Spartans. However the force arrived a day or two too late as the Athenian force had already beaten back the Persians. This ignited the fire in 480 BC for the Spartans to get first dibs at Thermopylae ten years later against Darius’ son Xerxes seeking revenge.
The upcoming film according to sources won’t dwell too much on the personal life and struggles of Xerxes. Meanwhile research doesn’t reveal any evidence of Xerxes presence in the Battle of Marathon resulting in high speculations that there would be a gap-filling sequence to include him in the battle. This would pave the way for Xerxes to develop a personal grudge against Greece.
Though a plot and title has been singled out, “Xerxes” is ways away from completion. The big question remains though whether actor Rodrigo Santoro would reprise his role as Xerxes.
