The charges filed against 22-year-old Samantha Tumpach who controversially filmed snippets of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” were recently dropped by authorities. If she was convicted, Tumpach would have faced three years in jail for copying parts of the film at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Chicago during her sister’s birthday party.

Tumpach’s lawyer, Dominick Dolci explains, “She’s traumatized by this. This is the worst event of her life.” Her video footage consisted on three minutes of “New Moon” together with shots from the birthday party.

The controversial case headlined nationwide even involving “New Moon” director Chris Weitz in defense of the young woman. In an email he wrote to the Chicaqgo Sun-Times, Weitz explains, “Needless to say, the case seems to me terribly unfair and I would like to do what I can to address this”.

In the state of Illinois, as dictated by law, a case could only push through when both the local theater and producers of the film agree to prosecute alleged video pirates. Tumpach’s case however was dropped because the Motion Picture Association of America, in representation of the studio, decided to no longer push through with the case. These were the words of spokesperson for the prosecutor Sally Daly.

The camera Tumpach used would be returned to her except for the memory card containing the footage. The young woman meanwhile is considering on filing a civil suit against the theater.

The lady who was caught videotaping three minutes of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” in a Chicago theater has found a new ally in the form of director Chris Weitz. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the woman, Samantah Tumpach is currently facing prison time.

Director openly expressed his disappointment on the arrest and felony charge for illegally copying his new film. The director even contacted Summit Entertainment to help resolve the issue.

Weitz writes his expressions in an email saying:

“Needless to say, the case seems to me terribly unfair and I would like to do what I can to address this. There is, needless to say, a difference between trying to protect the copyright of a film and making an unfair example of someone who clearly seems not to have any intentions towards video piracy.I am not sure what effect I would have on the case, the film is, after all, not my property.”

Moviefone gathers famous members of the vampire authority Volturi in ...

Moviefone gathers famous members of the vampire authority Volturi in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” for an exclusive Unscripted interview. Michael Sheen playing as Aro sits down with his vampire followers Dakota Fanning as Jane and Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius to ask each other questions sent in by fans.

The interview begins with specific questions related to their experience being cast in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”. Here are the Twilight related questions plus the stars answers:

What was the best advice Stephenie Meyer gave you about your character or the story in general?

Dakota: I think that the best advice that she gave me was with regard to my character’s power just that she doesn’t have to do anything or say anything special. Just by simply looking at someone, she can cause them pain. That’s pretty dangerous coz she gives you no warning.

Your daughter is reportedly a big fan of Twilight. Did you bring her to work or score any souvenirs for her from set?

Michael: The very first thing I had ever asked when I was offered the part was… I asked Lily, my daughter, about this character Aro. And she said he was bold and just wears a black cloak. And I thought, do I really wanna go bold for this part? So I was glad to find out that I didn’t have to go bold. She was as school the whole time so she couldn’t come to set and as a souvenir I stole Robert Pattinson.

What’s the strangest or funniest twilight merchandise you’ve heard about?

Jaime: I saw on Comic-con that they had the Twilight make-up. They had the Bella makeup.

Michael: Edward wears more make-up than Bella.

Jaime: It’d just be pale. I can’t imagine you particularly want to go outside wearing that. And maybe some people do.

Volturi stars were also asked unexpected personal questions. Jamie was controversially asked how he was comfortable in doing nude scenes which he calmly answers “incredibly comfortable”. Fans of Jamie would look forward to his upcoming film where he has to appear full frontal naked. Meanwhile Dakota confirms that she has 20 doubles working for her to walk around in the U.S. everyday so she could keep on with her normal life. Michael reveals his obsession on football as a kid and acting. He even shares how he reads loyally the history of acting and watching every vintage performance he could.

Unscripted questions where fun and exciting with Dakota being asked what tattoo she would get if given the chance and what she believes she’s missed out in life from being an actress at a young age. Michael meanwhile introduces his Halloween original character “El Drapo”.

Watch the stars of the Volturi clan shed their tough exteriors to reveal their funny nature and real-life personalities by viewing the full interview at Moviefone:

Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” continues to reign ...

Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” continues to reign supreme in the box-office for the Thanksgiving weekend. For the whole five-day holiday, the film earned an estimated $66 million from 4,042 screenings nationwide. $42.5 million of the gross came from the weekend. The success garnered by “New Moon” far exceeds the earnings of “Twilight” for its full run. The second installment comes in this Sunday with $230.7 million beating the $192 million gross total for “Twilight”. “New Moon” also won the hearts of international audience grossing $85.1 million for a worldwide total of $473.7 million in just 10 days of screening.

However for its second week run, “New Moon” experienced a larger drop of 70% than the 62% of “Twilight”. The huge drop was expected based from the larger earnings of $142.8 million for its opening compared to the $69 million “Twilight” earned in its opening. Summit Entertainments keeps their hopes high the film would continue expanding. Drops of 60% or more for the second week run are normal for huge franchises like “Spider-Man” or “Pirates of the Caribbean” considering their huge fan base keeps franchise films afloat. Observers of the box-office believe “New Moon” would reach the $300 million mark domestically.

Over the same Thanksgiving run meanwhile, a strong competitor has emerged in the likes of Sandra Bullock and Quinton Aaron’s “The Blind Side”. The film nearly knocked out “New Moon” for the holiday run as it earned $40.1 million over the weekend from 3,140 theaters against the $42.5 million of “New Moon”. The difference was slim but not enough to knock off the vampire-werewolf series from the top spot. The gross earnings of “The Blind Side” at present are $100.3 million.

Holding the top spots at the box-office are “New Moon”, “The Blind Side”, Sony’s “2012”, and Disney’s family comedy “Old Dogs”.

Thanksgiving holiday would be a big battle for the top ...

Thanksgiving holiday would be a big battle for the top spot in the box-office with contenders “Old Dogs” and “Ninja Assassin” release. Guys and the male crowd find saving grace from watching juggernaut chick flick “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” as they opt for the family-oriented bachelor life of John Travolta and Robin Williams in “Old Dogs” and the bloody action-packed international film “Ninja Assassins”.

Critics openly hated “Old Dogs” and many predict the film wouldn’t be expected to do well in box-office as well. “Ninja Assassin” with its great action scenes had greater chances from the male crowd. Releasing in about 2,500 theaters, it could probably gross around $15 million over the holiday. Chances are high that the two films are not enough to replace “New Moon” who had been perched at the top spot since last Friday at the box-office.

“New Moon” surprised everyone by earning a domestic total of more than $160 million for its opening release in five days plus another $140 million from the international market. Now many are asking whether the second installment will meet the same fate as its predecessor “Twilight” which dropped a significant 62% from its original opening earnings. If this were to happen to “New Moon”, the estimated earnings for this holiday would be approximately $55 million.

However this seems unlikely as the second installment is earning more fans than expected. Most likely the incoming holiday earnings would average $50 million to $70 million by the end of Sunday.

Just like predictions for “Old Dogs” and “Ninja Assassin”, Sandra Bullock’s inspirational film “The Blind Side” had been drowned by the monster following of the vampire-werewolf series. Though receiving mostly negative reviews from critics, audience begged to differ. It seems “The Blind Side” will earn a fair enough $25 million this weekend if maintained by good word of mouth.

Animated film “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” would more likely fair better than its other animated counterparts with the upcoming Christmas theme. Other films such as “Planet 51”, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, and “The Road” would most likely not appeal that much to the holiday crowd.

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” would keep holding the crown for the top spot until a stronger film would push it off the spot or until the hype dies down.

Two of the newest werewolves from “The Twilight Saga: New ...

Two of the newest werewolves from “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Alex Meraz and Kiowa Gordon sit down for an eye-opener interview for fans of the saga. Both novices to acting, the duo manages to keep up with the hype and give justice to their huge roles.

Playing the role of the werewolf Paul, Alex was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. Graduating at the New School for the Arts, Meraz has developed a wide range of talents to make him recognized in domestic box-office as a performer and artist. Aside from the field of arts, he also excels in the world of mixed martial arts taking home numerous awards from tournaments in both Karate and Capoeira. His physical capabilities and acting background makes him a perfect werewolf.

Kiowa was discovered at Phoenix during an audition for the role of Embry. Though born in Berlin, Germany, his family transferred to McLean, Virginia for his father’s work when he was aged one. Then a year after, they moved again to Northern Arizona to the Hualapai reservation where he learned the ropes of the Native American culture. He began schooling at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona.

The overtly friendly young actors opened up to both the media and the fans about their “Twilight Saga” experience:

How did you get into acting and land the roles in New Moon?

Alex: I have always had an interest in film, and all its different components. There are so many different layers to a good film, and I always wanted to do it and try it out. I got a great role in Twilight. I mean, that is a great launching pad for a new career.

Kiowa: What can I say, this is a great way to start an acting career. The movie is going to be great all the way.

The two of you play werewolves in the film, but most of the time you are shirtless. How did you buff up for the roles of Paul and Embry?

Kiowa: As for buffing up for the role, the studio hired us a trainer. He had worked on the film 300, so he knew how to jack up people.

Alex: I do karate and wrestling so I was already in shape, but I had to gain weight back and get beefed up again. I have a hate relationship with food and lifting weights, but it was all worth it.

Some directors can be tough on a cast. What was it like working with Chris Weitz?

Alex: The director was great! In a big budget film like this there are a lot of things going on all at once, and he was able to spread things out so evenly that you did not feel any pressure. He is a very soft-spoken man. He was a man of few words, and in acting you really don’t want someone to explain too much to you in words because it takes away from what you are doing. He kept it simple. We had a really great working relationship.

Kiowa: He is the first director I have ever worked with, and it was great to get to work with someone so great.

When you work with computer generated images (CGI) as they have to do to bring the werewolves to life, you really don’t see the results of their work until you see the completed film. What was it like working with CGI?

Alex: Working with so much CGI really worried me. We know with big-budget films there is always lots of CG going on, so the actors can be treated like objects you know … like stand here and don’t move … and everything else happens around you, and you don’t really know what you are doing. But, Chris brought in an amazing special effects team that he worked with on Golden Compass, so it was really incredible, and an organically involved process. I have a transformation scene where I try to kill Kristen’s character, and I get into a fight with Taylor’s character. They showed me a composite of what it was going to look like on the laptop so I could imagine it — it gave me really good references.”

Kiowa: Well in the actual making of the scene he just kind of huffs and puffs and then jumps out of the scene, and we are working with a cardboard cut out of a wolf, and we have to pretend it is this big ferocious beast.

Alex: Kristen had a really hard time feeling it because it is just a big cardboard thing with two guys holding it. It was kind of difficult for some of the actors to feel it. That is the beauty of a film like that. It is so involved and you have to use a lot of your imagination. The end product was incredible.

A new fever is hitting the streets of Hollywood and the entire world, as females all over the globe swoon, scream and cry for the heartthrob face of the “Twilight Saga” Robert Pattinson. Mass hysteria ensues wherever the young actor goes either from shrieking teenage girls or house moms fantasizing about the 23-year-old heartthrob.

As “New Moon” had proved to be a major hit with its box-office opening week, every company out there is attempting to ride with the success of the saga. Burger King is selling a Team Edward or Team Jacob bottle for fans to take home. It seems bankable enough for even actress Ashley Tisdale was seen sporting a Team Edward bottle while Kim Kardashian opted for the more buff Team Jacob water bottle.

Fans have more reason to drool and fantasize over their favorite vampire as UK distributor Revolver announces their plans on producing a documentary focusing on the success and life story of Robert Pattinson. The documentary is said to be titled “Robsessed”.

Many fans are hoping that the documentary would not only include clips from “Twilight” and “New Moon” but showcase Pattinson’s musical skills. The actor plays both the piano and guitar and has even recorded two songs on the soundtrack of “Twilight”, “Let Me Sign”, and “Never Think”.

As expected Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” was a major success both in domestic and international box-office for its opening weekend. Originally the initial reports indicate that “New Moon” had earned for the weekend $140.7 million domestically while overseas the film garnered $118.1 million. Now the numbers have been updated and the latest reports show that the gross earnings for the weekend total a whopping $274.9 million. Domestic sales have increased to $142.7 million while international sales grew to $142.8 million. Global figures came in a little later due to variety of distributors holding rights to the film.

Although the film has only seen more than a week in theaters, it had already broken records with its success. On Friday, the domestic tally of $72.7 million broke the previous record held by “The Dark Knight” last year with $67.2 million. It had also snatched the record for midnight screenings from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” with $26.3 million against the latter’s $22.2 million.

With the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend setting a straight four day leave from school for kids, chances are high that “New Moon” would rake in double the amount during their opening weekend for domestic box-office. With screenings in 25 countries, international sales are looking good as well.

During an interview with MovieMaker Magazine, director for “The Twilight ...

During an interview with MovieMaker Magazine, director for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Chris Weitz reveals his sentiments on the Hollywood system. Most disappointing to him was the experience in 2007 with “The Golden Compass”. He explains, “I really wanted that to be my masterpiece. And by that I don’t mean work of genius, rather the piece that you do that says to your peers that you’re ready to stop being a journeyman and start being an actual craftsman. Unfortunately, the edit was taken from me and whatever chance I had at that was also taken from me, which is kind of sad.”

Weitz debuted on the big screen together with his brother Paul back in 1999 with the hit “American Pie”. Since then he’d took hold of several Hollywood smashes. In the interview he also reveals his unlikely inspiration.

“I love David Lean and I love Kurosawa,” he says. “Every time I refer to those guys, I feel a bit sheepish because they are gods and I am mortal … Those are the guys who I aspire to evoke … Having said that, I don’t consider myself worth mentioning in the same breath.”

His next production after “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is “The Gardener”. The director views it as his homage to Vittorio De Sica’s “The Bicycle Thief” and his potential masterpiece in the making. He states, “I’m always looking for my last film, where I can put the brush down, and this is the one.”

Interestingly, he discusses his other plans once he decides to call it quits. “You know, it sounds ridiculous, but I’d really like to be a better surfer,” he said. “I’d like to learn to speak Spanish fluently; I’d like to travel around, live in Italy; I’d like to learn kung fu … It’s nice to make movies, but it’s also really hard.”
